Note: This article is part of our #GOSupportGaston campaign. In these coming weeks, the campaign features 7 mini-blitzes to support local businesses impacted by COVID-19. Check Gaston Outside for updates on our efforts with supportgaston.com.
Call to Action: Purchase items remotely from your Top 3 favorite retailers April 8-10. Show your support by tagging retailers and #GOSupportGaston.
We are a few weeks into our shelter-in-place order and inching into mini-blitz number three in our #GOSupportGaston campaign. Over the weekend, we challenged citizens to grab takeout from their Top 3 restaurants (or at least one of the Top 3) and now we are shifting gears to the shopping world.
With the help of SupportGaston.com, we have a community-compiled list of businesses that is growing daily. Local business owners are asked to add their business to the list to show us just how we can support them during this time of decreased face-to-face business.
This poll of over 300 local business owners established what we were all afraid of: many of these businesses fear this temporary closure could lead to a permanent closing. There’s overhead and inventory, employees and, in many cases, the life’s work it took to get these businesses off the ground. Now is the time to rally as a community and support business in a big way.
At Gaston Outside, we are always urging you to keep your dollars as local as possible with our shopping guides and downtown guides. What if you chose to shop locally? And we mean really locally—like from the comfort of your own couch.
Lowell’s Mattie C Clothing Co. is offering 20% off all orders as well as free shipping, even throwing in free delivery to anyone within a 10-mile radius. GiGi’s Boutique in Belmont is even offering FaceTime shopping. Catawba River Outfitters is offering social media shopping with curbside pick-up.
Got a pup that needs some love? Simply American Dog Treat Truck will bring the treats to you.
Whatever you’re shopping for, make sure to check your local retailers first. Together we can keep these businesses up and running.
